Trivial or Important references and connections: Version one (D. 249), composed on August 1, 1815, is an incomplete setting of a song, with only the piano introduction sketched out and apparently no text set. Version two (D. 387), composed in March of 1816 and first published in 1897, is an incomplete sketch of a cantata or cantata movement, scored for solo voices, SATB chorus, and piano. The version of the score published in 1897 appears to be a faithful transcription of the progress of Schubert's sketch, and therefore contains a largely unfinished accompaniment, missing words, unclear assignment of solo and/or chorus vocal lines, and confusing/missing clefs.
