In an association which has all but marred her reputation, the poet, Negri, was favored by Benito Mussolini and his fascist regime, having been nominated for the Nobel Prize in literature, awarded the Mussolini Prize by the Royal Academy of Italy, and selected as the first woman member of the Academy at his behest.
